PepperminTea Hot Chocolate

Nothing quite signifies the start to the holiday season the way peppermint hot chocolate does! I have cozy memories of my sister and I drinking peppermint hot chocolate with whipped cream on snowy family trips to the mountains while my dad ordered coffee or warming up with a mug after cutting down a fresh Christmas tree at a tree farm.

I’m calling this pepperminTEA hot chocolate because I used a peppermint tea bag to flavor the hot chocolate rather than peppermint extract. There’s no problem with the extract, but I often have peppermint tea bags in my tea stash and like to utilize the slow steeping of the tea to enjoy the herbal benefits of the peppermint leaves.

This recipe is so smooth, rich, and creamy. The melted chocolate thickens the mixture, and since the chocolate is 70% cacao, it’s not too sweet - this is perfect if you want a richer, more sophisticated hot chocolate. Adding the CocoWhip makes this cozy cup of hot chocolate perfectly sweet and a special holiday treat, but it can be left out for a drink that’s pretty low in sugar.
