Tahini Miso Sauce
This is my new, absolute favorite sauce. I WANT TO DRINK IT FROM THE BOWL.
It is so simple, quick to throw together, but has a deep, complex, and well balanced flavor profile. It really doesn’t get any better when you need something to drizzle over a stir-fry, rice, or noodles on a weeknight. It creates a similar experience to my go-to peanut sauce, but is a nice way to change things up and has a more unique flavor.
THE BEAUTY OF MISO
miso is a fermented soybean paste (although there are some soy-free varieties made from other things such as chickpeas). Fermented foods are amazing sources of probiotics / good bacteria which promote a healthy gut microbiome.
A healthy gut microbiome benefits so many aspects of our health, from improving the immune system and skin health, to increasing nutrient absorption, regulating hormones, and even improved mental/emotional health.
Fermented foods are even known to reduce risk of cancer.
If you don’t like sauerkraut, try miso as an alternative to getting fermented foods into your diet - it’s salty and packs an umami punch. This recipe is perfect if you’re looking for a different way to use miso besides a simple miso soup!
Last time I made this, I made a double batch. The first night, I drizzled it over my Tahini Miso Tofu bowl (the dish I created when I first came up with this sauce recipe!), and then saved the other half for another night, on which I stirred the rest into some soba noodles with some sautéed vegetables. Not only was the sauce delicious both ways, but it was really nice having it pre-made for an easy dinner later on in the week
Happy eating, happy healing!
