Vegan Chipotle Crema
Creamy, tangy, zesty, and with a good kick of heat, this vegan chipotle crema will add vibrance to a multitude of dishes! Drizzle it on a burrito bowl or tacos, spread it on a sandwich, or add it to a savory breakfast - you can’t go wrong!
Rather than sour cream, this recipe uses my oil-free vegan mayonnaise as a base which keeps it low fat and low calorie (only 85 calories in the whole recipe) without sacrificing the thick, creamy texture. The oil-free vegan mayonnaise (recipe here) takes less than 5 minutes to blend together, and then we simply stir in a few extra ingredients to turn it into the chipotle crema, so you can have homemade, healthy chipotle crema in less than 10 minutes.
A few notes…
Feel free to start with 1 TBS of the chipotle peppers in adobo if you don’t like a lot of heat, then add more to your liking.
If you can’t find crushed chipotle peppers, buy the whole chipotle peppers in adobo and either chop finely, or incorporate with an immersion blender. I find that the whole peppers tend to be spicier, so start with a small amount (maybe more of the liquid than the actual pepper) and taste as you go!
The agave can be substituted with another liquid sweetener of your choice.
